The McDermott Group HQ
CRGP was commissioned to design a bespoke headquarters for The McDermott Group at Broxden. As a leading group of diverse and progressive companies, the client required a new office building that would not only accommodate their operational needs but also showcase the breadth and quality of the services they provide.
The design therefore places strong emphasis on creating a building that is visually striking both externally and internally. A range of flexible and well-considered spaces have been incorporated to support day-to-day working while also providing areas suitable for hosting and entertaining clients. The result is a dynamic workplace environment that reflects the forward-thinking nature of the organisation.
A key ambition of the project has been to achieve the international WELL Gold Standard, placing the wellbeing of building occupants at the forefront of the design and construction process. Central to this concept is a dramatic entrance atrium featuring a bespoke spiral staircase that rises from the ground floor to the upper levels. Running alongside it is an eight-metre-high moss wall, introducing a strong biophilic element that enhances both the visual impact of the space and the overall wellbeing of occupants.
The building has also been carefully designed to respond to the site’s natural topography. A split-level arrangement allows a small garage to be integrated into the lower part of the site, while the main entrance opens into a double-height atrium that creates a strong first impression for visitors. At the upper level, a boardroom with full-height corner glazing has been strategically positioned to face the A9, taking advantage of views and ensuring the building presents a confident presence within its wider context.
