Nairn Bowling Club
Nairn Bowling Club has experienced a significant increase in membership in recent years, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for the sport within the community. Recognising this momentum, the club has developed ambitious plans for a new facility that will support its continued growth while providing improved amenities for both existing and future members.
The design takes inspiration from the form of a traditional sports pavilion, creating a building that feels appropriate to its recreational setting while offering a contemporary interpretation. The architectural language responds to the surrounding urban context of Victorian villas, drawing on their scale and rhythm while introducing a lighter, more modern expression. This balance allows the building to sit comfortably within its surroundings while establishing a distinct identity for the club.
From the outset, the design team has worked closely together to carefully consider how the building will perform in terms of both cost and carbon. Operational efficiency and environmental responsibility have been key drivers in shaping the project.
The proposed structure utilises cross-laminated timber (CLT), which not only reduces reliance on steel and concrete but also lowers the overall embodied carbon of the building. Internally, timber features will introduce warmth and character to the spaces, creating a welcoming environment that reflects the club’s community-focused ethos.
